Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission is responsible for overseeing the civil service rules as they apply to the classified positions within the City service. The Commission also has the duty to administer competitive examinations for vacancies within the classified service, and recommending candidates for appointment to those vacancies. The Commission also has the responsibility of providing for promotions within the classified service, based on competitive examination.
The Commission was created by the City’s Charter and consists of five members, all appointed by Council for six-year terms.

Meetings
The Civil Service Commission meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. All meetings are held at the City’s Municipal Building, 1 Benjamin Franklin Way.
